This enviable position on the coast, close to London and the continent has in the past moulded the region with a long history of invasion, battles and new cultures. Here you will find glorious beaches, windmills, ancient woodlands, rolling countryside, and historical marvels such as the famous Canterbury Cathedral.

A holiday in Kent has it all: There's fun on the beach, sailing, diving, sea angling, horse riding, cycling, walking, quad biking, karting, 4x4 off road driving, zorbing, and wildlife spotting. If you feel the need for more culture, the magnificent city of Canterbury, once part of the pilgrim's route, as recounted in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, is awash with sites of historical importance.

No Kent holiday is complete without a visit to the White Cliffs of Dover, Dover Castle, Scotney Castle in Tunbridge Wells, Heaver Castle near Seven Oaks, the stunning Leeds Castle near Maidstone, and both the Cathedrals of Rochester and Canterbury.

Kent holidays are not just limited to staying in England though, as you can buy a day return to France on the Eurostar from Ashford, and have a day exploring the shops and attractions of a different culture. After lunch in a café or restaurant, you may choose to bring some wine back as a reminder of your trip, however, there are some fantastic wines made in the vineyards, such as Tenterden and Lamberhurst. If wine is not your thing the county is also home to the oldest brewery in the country, Shepard Neame.

One of the more unusual Kent attractions is Diggerland, where both adults and children can try their hand at driving and operating a digger, and have fun on all the great rides. Other Kent attractions include: The Canterbury Tales, where you can become part of Chaucer's merry band of pilgrims. Dickens World, which is a recreation of Dickensian times. The Marsh Maize Maze is a fantastic maze entirely constructed from the maze crop in the Kent countryside, which is grown each year. These are just some of the things that make a Kent holiday so special!

If you enjoy the outdoors and bird watching, then a trip to Dungeness, in the Romney Marshes, will give you the opportunity to see many species that are rarely seen in the UK. This is the second largest shingle bank in the world, and is great for a long stroll.

If for you holidays are all about golf, then you are spoilt for choice with The London Golf Club International and Heritage Courses, Royal St Georges Golf Club, Chart Hills Golf Club, Princes Golf Club, Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club, and Crowborough Beacon Golf Club.

Naturally there are some fantastic locations for great holidays, and you can choose from superb Kent accommodation such as bed and breakfast, guest house, hotel or boutique hotel, and self-catering apartments or cottages for your stay in the area.

The main urban locations for a Kent Holiday are Canterbury, Rochester, Maidstone, Ashford, Bethersden , Broadstairs, Chatham, Deal, Dover, Folkestone, Gravesend, Hythe, Margate, Pluckley, Sandwich, Sevenoaks, Sittingbourne, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells, Whitstable, and the villages of Biddenden, Tenterden, Elham, Otford, Walmer, and Wye. Each one has its own charm and character, from the coastal towns, to the 'Garden of England' countryside. Kent is a wonderful county to visit, and get a slice of English life at it's most English.
